Bob Ferguson joined Toastmasters International over 22 years ago. He worked his way through the speaking and leadership activities fulfilling every role up to Division Governor and by 2005 had achieved his DTM.
He also founded his own club, Hertfordshire Speakers, which is still running today, and has just celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The thing that really stimulated Bob’s growth was the competitions. He believes that they are one of the best catalysts for excellence in Toastmasters. Bob won the District International Speech contest in 2002, which took him to Texas to compete in the final rounds of the World Public Speaking Championship. In 2005, he added the District Evaluation championship, and in 2009 the Humorous Speech championship.
Has he run out of things to do? Not a bit of it. Bob believes that public speaking is an artform that you never “learn”. Not only are there many new techniques to learn but styles change with the times, so you have to keep reviewing and relearning – a programme Bob doubts will ever end.
